About us

About eastjakarta.com

An independent, practical guide to Jakarta Timur, the side of the capital most guides skip.

Our mission

Make East Jakarta easy to visit, and worth it.

Most Jakarta guides stop at the Old Town, the National Monument and the malls of the south. East Jakarta gets a line, if that. Yet it is where you'll find Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the Lubang Buaya memorial, Jatinegara's market and its decades-old food stalls, Halim airport and some of the city's best-value hotels.

eastjakarta.com exists to fill that gap. We want a first-time visitor, a family on a weekend in town or a traveller with a Halim flight to know exactly what to see, where to eat, where to sleep and how to get between them, without wading through outdated forum posts.

The site is written by the eastjakarta.com team and published in English and Bahasa Indonesia, with the same facts on both versions.

What we cover

Sights and landmarks

From TMII and Monumen Pancasila Sakti to Masjid At-Tin and the Jakarta International Velodrome, with hours, prices and how long to allow.

Neighbourhoods

Area guides to Jatinegara, Rawamangun, Halim and Cawang, Cibubur, Taman Mini and Cipayung and more, so you can pick the right base.

Food

Betawi classics, market stalls and where to eat near the sights, written for people who want to eat like locals.

Hotels

Where to stay by plan: park days, early flights from Halim, food-focused trips or a quieter base in Cibubur.

Getting there and around

Halim and Soekarno-Hatta airports, LRT, KRL, TransJakarta, Grab and Gojek, explained in plain language.

Travel essentials

The practical side: eSIMs, travel insurance, airport transfers, car hire, money and the weather.

How we research

Every price, opening time, fare and entry rule on this site is checked against an official source wherever one exists: the attraction's own website or verified social accounts, transport operators, airport operators and Indonesian government portals. Where official information is thin, we cross-check reputable Indonesian news outlets and say when a figure is approximate.

We date what goes out of date. You'll see notes such as "checked October 2026" next to prices and hours, because things change in Jakarta, sometimes overnight. Our full process, including how we use digital tools, is set out in our editorial policy.

How we make money

The guide is free to read. We earn money in one way only: through affiliate links run by Travelpayouts. If you click one of our buttons for a hotel, flight, tour, eSIM, transfer, car hire or insurance partner and then book, the partner may pay us a commission. You pay the same price you would pay going to the partner directly.

We do not run advertising, we do not show display ads and we do not sell sponsored posts. Partner links are marked as sponsored in the page code and are followed by a short disclosure note. The full list of partners and what each one is used for is on our affiliate disclosure page.

Our independence

  • No business can pay to be included, ranked higher or described more kindly.
  • We do not accept free stays, meals or tours in exchange for coverage.
  • We recommend plenty of places that earn us nothing: the Lubang Buaya memorial, street-food stalls, free museums and public transport.
  • Commission rates never decide which hotel or tour we feature. Usefulness to a visitor to East Jakarta does.

Corrections

If you spot a price, opening time or detail that has changed, please tell us. We review every correction we receive, check it against the source and update the page, including its "updated" date. Use our contact page; a link to the page and a note of what you saw is all we need.
