Plan and book your East Jakarta trip
Flights, a bed, a ride from the airport, data and cover: the practical side, sorted before you land.
How to use this page
Seven things to sort, in the order we would do them
Each service below links to a full guide written for East Jakarta specifically, with fares and rules checked in October 2026, followed by the booking partners we use ourselves. Book flights and a hotel first, then the airport transfer and eSIM so you land connected and collected, then insurance. Car hire and tours can wait until you know your plans.
Book the essentials
Flights
Book firstFly into Halim (HLP) for a 15–30 minute ride to most of East Jakarta, or Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) for most international routes. Search both: "JKT" covers every Jakarta airport.
Hotels
Pick your baseChoose by plan: TMII for the park, Halim and Cawang for flights and the LRT, Jatinegara for markets and trains, Rawamangun or Cibubur for quieter stays. See where to stay.
Airport transfers
Before you flyCGK is roughly 45 minutes to two hours from East Jakarta by road. Compare private transfers, Grab, Bluebird, DAMRI and the airport train in our guide.
Indonesia eSIM
Before you flyInstall a data eSIM at home so Grab, maps and WhatsApp work the moment you land, with no airport queue and no IMEI paperwork for short trips.
Travel insurance
RecommendedPrivate hospitals ask for payment or a guarantee up front, and rainy-season storms delay flights. Check medical, delay and motorbike-passenger cover.
Car hire
OptionalA car with driver is the easy way to do Cibubur, Bogor or a long TMII day. Self-drive needs an IDP and an eye on the odd-even rule.
Tours and tickets
OptionalGuided TMII days, street-food walks, Thousand Islands boat trips and Bogor or Puncak day tours, plus e-tickets for attractions.

Travel services FAQ
Which airport is best for East Jakarta?
Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP) is inside East Jakarta and most areas are 15–40 minutes away. Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) has far more international flights but is roughly 45 minutes to two hours away by road. Our airport transfer guide compares every option.
What should I book before arriving in Jakarta?
At minimum: flights, your first nights' hotel, a way out of the airport and mobile data. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Car hire and tours can be booked once you have settled your plans.
Do I need a car in East Jakarta?
Usually not. The LRT, KRL commuter trains, TransJakarta and Grab or Gojek cover most trips. A car with driver makes sense for Cibubur, Bogor, Puncak or a long family day out.
Are the booking links on this page affiliate links?
Yes. Some buttons are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not change our recommendations; see our affiliate disclosure for details.
