Jakarta International Velodrome

Jakarta International Velodrome in Rawamangun was rebuilt for the 2018 Asian Games and Asian Para Games, and its 250-metre wooden track is UCI-certified. History

The original Velodrome Rawamangun opened in 1973 as a national-standard outdoor track. Between 2016 and 2018 it was rebuilt as a covered arena by PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), received UCI certification in June 2018 and hosted track cycling at the Asian Games and Asian Para Games that year.

What to see and do

The arena seats around 3,500 for cycling and up to about 8,500 for concerts and shows. Riding the track itself requires a track licence: Jakpro and the Indonesian cycling federation have offered basic training and a test for about Rp250,000. Most visitors simply use the grounds for running or watch a race or event; check the venue's Instagram for the calendar.

Tips

Come early (from 06:00) to run before the heat, and expect weekend mornings to be busy. For food, Rawamangun's noodle and bakso shops are minutes away; see our Rawamangun & Pulomas guide.

Getting there

LRT Jakarta's Velodrome station is the southern terminus of the line from Kelapa Gading, and TransJakarta Corridor 4 stops at Velodrome and Pemuda Rawamangun. From Halim airport it is about 20 minutes by car outside rush hour.
