Matraman travel guide
Matraman is East Jakarta's smallest district, a dense, central slice between the Ciliwung and Jatinegara that takes its name from the Mataram soldiers who camped here during Sultan Agung's 17th-century campaigns against Batavia. Today it is a practical base: a giant bookshop, the Pramuka markets, decades-old soto and bakery counters, and an IHG hotel on the main road.
