Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP)

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP) is Jakarta's second airport, inside East Jakarta and about 12 kilometres from the city centre, much closer than Soekarno-Hatta. It shares its runway with a major Indonesian Air Force base and handles mostly domestic Batik Air and Citilink flights, plus FlyJaya and Susi Air services.

History

Halim began around 1924 as Tjililitan airfield, Batavia's first, and KNILM flights started on 1 November 1928. It was handed to the Indonesian Air Force in 1950 and renamed on 17 August 1952 after the national hero Abdul Halim Perdanakusuma. It was Jakarta's international gateway from 1974 until Soekarno-Hatta opened in 1985, returned to scheduled domestic flights in 2014, and closed from March to September 2022 for a major renovation.

Flights and terminal

Batik Air and Citilink operate most routes, to cities such as Surabaya, Denpasar, Yogyakarta, Padang and Pekanbaru, and routes shift between Halim and Soekarno-Hatta from season to season, so always check which airport is on your ticket. The terminal is compact; the 2022 works enlarged the arrival hall and added a third baggage belt. In September 2026 volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau briefly closed Jakarta's airports, a reminder to check flight status.

Tips

Inside the terminal only taxis authorised by the airport authority can pick up, and they are often pricier; Grab, Gojek and Bluebird pick up just outside. Read our Halim arrival guide and airport transfers page.

Getting there

A shuttle bus connects the airport to the Halim station complex for Whoosh high-speed trains to Bandung and the LRT Jabodebek. DAMRI buses run to Bogor and Bekasi, and the JAK 20 Mikrotrans stops at Gereja Oikumene, about three minutes' walk from the terminal. Hotels in Cawang and Cililitan are 2–3 km away.
