Tours, tickets and day trips from East Jakarta

Let a guide handle TMII's size, Jakarta's traffic and the boat to the islands, or just skip the ticket queue.

Book or go it alone?

When a tour is worth paying for

Plenty of East Jakarta is easy on your own: Lubang Buaya is a short Grab ride, Pasar Jatinegara rewards wandering, and TMII has its own LRT station. Where a guide earns their fee is context and logistics: explaining what the provincial pavilions and museums actually mean, getting a family around a park of roughly 150 hectares in the heat, ordering confidently at a street stall, or timing a boat, a mountain road or a train so you do not lose half the day.

Our rule of thumb: book a guide for TMII if it is your first visit, for food if you do not speak Indonesian, and for anything outside the city (islands, Bogor, Puncak). Use skip-the-line or e-tickets for single attractions.

Our favourite tours from East Jakarta

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah

Indonesia's provinces in one park: traditional houses, the Keong Emas theatre, bird park, science centre and a cable car. A guide links it all into a story; going alone, buy e-tickets and use the free shuttles inside. Read our one-day TMII itinerary and museums guide.

Jakarta street-food tour

Go with a local who knows which lane hides the best soto Betawi, kerak telor and bakmi. Pair it with our self-guided Jatinegara food trail and the Betawi food guide.

Thousand Islands day trip

Speedboats leave the north Jakarta piers (Marina Ancol, Sunda Kelapa or Baywalk Pluit, depending on operator) in the morning; Pari and Tidung are about 60–90 minutes out, with snorkelling, cycling and simple seafood lunches. Packages bundle the boat, lunch and gear.

Bogor and Puncak day trip

From TMII or Cawang the Jagorawi toll road runs straight south to Bogor's botanic gardens, then up into the Puncak tea plantations. Go on a weekday and start early. More ideas in day trips from East Jakarta.

Jakarta city highlights

Monas, Istiqlal Mosque, the cathedral and Kota Tua's Dutch-era square in one guided day: a good contrast to East Jakarta's neighbourhood life.

Attraction tickets

Theme parks, aquariums and museums across Jakarta sell e-tickets that save queueing, useful on weekends and school holidays.

Tours FAQ

How much is the TMII entrance ticket?

Rp25,000 per person on weekdays and Rp35,000 at weekends, plus Rp35,000 for a car, according to the official TMII site (checked October 2026). Museums and attractions such as the bird park or cable car charge separately, and TMII sells a foreign-visitor package that bundles extras.

Do I need a guide for Taman Mini?

No, but it helps on a first visit. The park is large and signage is mostly in Indonesian; a guide explains the regional pavilions and keeps you moving in the heat. Independent visitors can use the free shuttles inside the park.

How do I get to the Thousand Islands from East Jakarta?

Take a Grab to the north Jakarta pier your operator uses (Marina Ancol, Sunda Kelapa or Baywalk Pluit), which can take an hour or more in morning traffic. Speedboats to Pari or Tidung cost roughly Rp200,000–240,000 each way; slower public ferries leave from Kali Adem at Muara Angke.

Is a Bogor or Puncak day trip possible from East Jakarta?

Yes. East Jakarta is on the Jagorawi toll road, so Bogor is close by car on a clear day. Avoid weekends for Puncak, when police often run one-way traffic systems up and down the pass.

Can tours pick me up in East Jakarta?

Private tours usually can; group tours often start in central Jakarta. Check the meeting point on the booking page and message the operator before you pay if you are staying near TMII, Cawang or Cibubur.
