Arriving at Halim Airport (HLP): The East Jakarta Guide
Landing at Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP)? Which airlines fly there in October 2026, how to reach TMII, Cawang and Jatinegara, and how to transfer to CGK airport.
Jakarta's other airport is already in East Jakarta.
Most visitors fly into Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), out west in Tangerang. But if your trip is centred on Taman Mini, Cawang or Jatinegara, the airport you want is Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP), which sits in the Makasar district of East Jakarta, roughly 12 km from the city centre. It shares its runway with an Indonesian Air Force base, the terminal is compact, and on a good day you can be at your hotel near TMII in well under half an hour.
This guide covers who flies to Halim now, what the terminal is like, the best ways to get across East Jakarta from it, and what to do if you need to connect to CGK. Everything was checked in October 2026; schedules at Halim have changed several times in the last two years, so always confirm your own flight with the airline.
Who flies here
Domestic flights only, from a handful of airlines.
Halim handles domestic scheduled flights; there are no scheduled international passenger services, so if you are flying in from abroad you will land at CGK and transfer (see below). On 1 August 2025 the government moved part of Batik Air's and Citilink's Halim schedule to CGK, which trimmed the route map. Since then Citilink has added routes back, including Padang and Pekanbaru in early 2026.
On a typical day in September 2026, departures came from Batik Air, Citilink (including its ATR turboprops), FlyJaya and Susi Air. The table below shows destinations reported in recent schedules; treat it as a guide rather than a timetable.
| Airline | Destinations from HLP (reported, Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Batik Air | Surabaya, Denpasar (Bali), Malang, Palembang |
| Citilink | Yogyakarta (Adisucipto), Denpasar, Surabaya, Padang, Pekanbaru, Medan, plus ATR routes such as Pagar Alam |
| FlyJaya | Yogyakarta (Adisucipto), Jember, Ketapang |
| Susi Air | Bandung (Husein Sastranegara), continuing to Pangandaran |

Getting across East Jakarta
Ride-hailing for most trips, rail if you are travelling light.
The airport terminal is not on a rail line. The Halim rail complex, where the Whoosh high-speed train to Bandung and the LRT Jabodebek Halim station sit side by side, is a few kilometres away by road. A T-Shuttle bus links the airport with Whoosh Halim station; when it launched it cost Rp40,000 and ran every 30 minutes from 06:00 to 21:00. Inside the complex, a footbridge connects the Whoosh station to the LRT.
For most travellers with luggage, though, a Grab or Gojek car is the simplest way to reach hotels in the Halim and Cawang area, Taman Mini or Jatinegara. Fares are set in the app and vary with traffic, rain and time of day, so check the quote before you confirm.
| Going to | Easiest option | Rail alternative |
|---|---|---|
| TMII | Grab/Gojek car, a short ride south | T-Shuttle to Halim, LRT to Cawang, change to the Cibubur line for TMII station (about Rp10,000 off-peak) |
| Cawang hotels | Grab/Gojek car | LRT Halim to Cawang, about Rp7,100 |
| Jatinegara | Grab/Gojek car | LRT to Cawang, then TransJakarta or KRL via Manggarai |
| Bandung | T-Shuttle to Whoosh Halim | Whoosh to Padalarang or Tegalluar |
| Central Jakarta (Dukuh Atas) | Car, if traffic is light | LRT Bekasi line from Halim to Dukuh Atas |
LRT Jabodebek fares are distance-based: Rp5,000 for the first kilometre plus about Rp700 per kilometre, capped at Rp20,000 on weekday peaks (06:00–08:59 and 16:00–19:59) and Rp10,000 at other times and at weekends. Read our full East Jakarta public transport guide for cards and connections.
Arriving late, with children or with a lot of luggage? A pre-booked transfer means a driver waiting with your name and a fixed price.

HLP or CGK?
Which airport makes sense for an East Jakarta trip.
Choose Halim (HLP) if…
- You are flying domestically on one of its routes
- You are staying near TMII, Cawang, Halim or Jatinegara
- You are heading on to Bandung by Whoosh
Choose Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) if…
- You are flying internationally
- Your airline or route does not serve Halim
- You want the widest choice of times and fares

Connecting
Transferring between Halim and Soekarno-Hatta.
There is no airport rail link between HLP and CGK; a long-planned express line has never been built. You have three realistic options, and every one of them depends on Jakarta's traffic, so build in a generous buffer: we would not plan less than four hours between a landing at one airport and a departure from the other, and more on Friday evenings or in heavy rain.
| Option | How it works | Cost (checked Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Grab/Gojek or taxi | Door to door via the toll roads; roughly 1–1.5 hours in normal traffic | Set by the app or meter, plus tolls |
| DAMRI bus | T-Shuttle from HLP to Whoosh Halim station, then the DAMRI airport bus from the station's east side to CGK; about 1.5 hours on the bus | Rp40,000 shuttle + Rp80,000 DAMRI |
| Rail | LRT Halim to Dukuh Atas, walk to BNI City, then the airport train to CGK | Cheaper but with several changes; best with light bags |
Stay nearby
Sleep close to Halim and Cawang.
For an early flight or a late arrival, the hotels along Jl. MT Haryono and around Cawang are the closest base. See our guide to where to stay in East Jakarta and the Halim airport landmark page.
