Five parks for a slower day in Jakarta Timur.

East Jakarta is the city's largest district, and away from the traffic it has a string of parks and open spaces. They make a good counterweight to a day of museums or a morning of market food. Here are five worth a visit, plus the biggest green space of all, inside Taman Mini.

Where to go.

Taman Waduk Ria Rio

A park built around a reservoir (waduk), good for a walk by the water.

Taman Bambu

A city park named for bamboo (bambu), and an easy stop for a short break from the streets.

Cilangkap agro-tourism park

An agro-tourism park in Cilangkap, a change of pace from the city sights.

Taman Ranggon Wijaya Kusuma

Another of East Jakarta's green parks, worth adding to a morning out if you are nearby.

Wiladatika Cibubur

A recreation park and campground in Cibubur, for a longer day outdoors.

TMII's green zone

Around 150 hectares, car-free since 2023, with free electric shuttles and bikes. Entry Rp25,000 weekdays, Rp35,000 weekends.

Go early in the morning, and watch the season.

Early mornings are the best time for any of these parks: the air is cooler and the heat builds by midday. Plan the rest of the day indoors or at lunch once the sun is high.

October to April is the rainy season, so pack an umbrella and keep plans flexible. A dry early morning is often the best window for a park visit in these months.

  • Go early Cooler air, before the midday heat
  • Pack an umbrella October–April is rainy season
  • Carry small cash For warungs and parking
  • Use Grab or Gojek Cars and motorbike taxis are the easiest way between parks

The biggest green space is inside Taman Mini.

TMII has been car-free since 2023. You park at the edge, then get around its green zone of about 150 hectares by free electric shuttle, by bike or on foot. Gate 3 opens at 05:00, so you can be cycling before the heat sets in. A bicycle costs Rp10,000 to bring in, on top of entry.

Pair a morning in the green with a meal afterwards. The legendary stalls of Jatinegara, some cooking since the 1940s, are easy to reach by KRL or Grab; see our Jatinegara food trail and the East Jakarta food guide.

Stay nearby

Base yourself in Cibubur for Wiladatika.

For an early start at Wiladatika, stay in Cibubur. For TMII's green zone, see our TMII one-day itinerary and the hotels near the park.

Hotel Ciputra Cibubur (Swiss-Belhotel)
